The Heatwaves, Staycations and Hidden Gems Shaping Summer 2026

The Heatwaves, Staycations and Hidden Gems Shaping Summer 2026

Hot on the heels of record-breaking May temperatures in the UK comes a whole host of reasons to holiday at home this summer. From chaos at ports and airports, thanks to the new European entry system roll-out, to the rising cost of fuel, this could be the year that people really start to appreciate what’s on their doorstep. There’s no better opportunity for you to remind guests why they should be booking to stay with you this summer.

And if the forecast should take a turn for the worst, just remember the words of legendary fell walker and author, Alfred Wainwright, “there's no such thing as bad weather, only unsuitable clothing.”

How to Keep Cool in a Heatwave

It’s been 50 years since the long hot, dry summer of 1976 and, ever the optimists, we’re all hopeful that some more sunshine is on its way. However, not everyone loves the heat, so how do you keep your hotel guests cool when the temperatures are soaring? Our hotel fans are a great place to start. If it’s a particularly humid day, perhaps have them switched on and working their magic as your guests arrive. Mini bars and fridges are a must for keeping a refreshing supply of bottled water, fresh milk or even a mini wine or prosecco. And lightweight bathrobes and lighter tog duvets will make relaxing and sleeping a much more pleasant experience.

And don’t forget our four-legged friends. With more people choosing to take their dogs on holiday, make sure there’s a freshly filled water bowl to greet your furry companion.

Celebrate Your Regional Hidden Gems

With news that regional hotels outperformed London during the first quarter of 2026, could you be doing more to sell the value of holidaying in your area this summer? Event-led tourism comes into its own at this time of year with music festivals, country shows, and food fairs all key factors in attracting visitors. Keep abreast of all your local developments to share with guests, and sometimes the more niche or quirky the better as this is what truly sets you apart from other places in the UK.

New Campaign Aims to Cut VAT for Hospitality Businesses

Hospitality businesses across the country are getting behind a new campaign spearheaded by Tom Kerridge aiming to reduce the hospitality VAT rate from 20% to 10%. UK hospitality businesses currently pay more VAT than all other European countries, with the exception of Denmark. Rates in Germany and Ireland are 7% and 9%, respectively, and a flat 10% rate runs across France, Italy, and Spain.

How to Sleep Well in Accommodation

We are delighted to be featured in June’s Hotel Magazine! Focusing on Spa, Wellness, and Amenities, we offer up our top tips on how to enjoy a good night’s sleep in a hotel. Think about adding blackout curtains, eye masks, earplugs, and sleep sprays combined with top-quality bedding and extra pillows.

The Most Important Hotel Room Features

And finally for a company which takes immense pride in providing everything needed to kit out the very best hotel rooms, we couldn’t help chuckle at some of the comments in the recent Times reader survey of ‘pointless things in hotel rooms.’ Just remember, you can never have enough hangers, hooks, refreshments, and biscuits, and you won’t go far wrong!
