How to style your rooms with soft furnishings

DIY | Self Catering - 28.04.2018

Take 5 minutes to look at your competitor’s website pictures, and try to find one without cushions, blankets or bed runners in the bedrooms or living areas.

Can’t do it? Think about your own bedroom, your own living room, how many soft furnishings do you have around the house? This should be the same for your B&B, guesthouse or self-catering let in order to create that essential ‘home from home’ feel.

Not only do cushions, runners and curtains add an element of comfort, cosiness and a personal sense of style to a room but they also come with a low price tag considering how much they can transform a room. Whether you use them as a splash of colour, a little added texture or are tying into a muted colour scheme, you can completely reinvent the whole look and feel of a room with just a few added pieces.

We’ve picked out some of our newest cushion collections, as well as some older favourites, to give you a helping hand when it comes to updating your look for the brighter seasons:

Act natural

Muted neutral tones and colour schemes are timeless and classic and often suit (nearly!) everyone’s tastes. Crisp white linens and walls with touches of toned down beiges and greys can create a relaxing interior for your guests.

For the bedroom, we recommend our Verona collection with the super-soft velvety material adding an extra level of comfort and cosiness, while the muted shades of mink, charcoal and linen will tie in perfectly with your neutral décor and colour scheme. A perfect addition to any armchair or sofa in your living room, our Catriona collection is ideal for creating a snug, farmhouse feel with the woven check pattern.

Though the colours are mostly fitting with a neutral colour scheme, the subtle pops of blue, green, purple and burnt orange will help to add a little extra colour to your décor.

Pop of colour

Alternatively, incorporating bright colours into your guest rooms can create an attractive contrast against crisp white bedding and a muted décor. Adding vibrant shades to your rooms with cushions, runners and extra amenities such as toiletries, will help to give a brightened, summery feel to your rooms, and showcase your attention to detail regarding the colour scheme of the interior.

Less is usually more when it comes to dashes of colour so as not to overdo it, which is why we recommend the bright and summery Ashley and Crompton collections as the perfect addition to a more minimalist décor to really bring some vibrancy to your rooms.

So, whether you decide to add some muted colours, bold shades or fun textures, with some carefully thought out additions you can completely transform your room and, best of all, it won't break the bank! You can find all of our soft furnishing collections here.
